Batur and around is a fascinating part.
Probably the closest one can get to the fire spitting volcanoes. From the road which leads down to the water a black patch of burned grass can still be seen from the last eruption (watch the video). The lake itself is covering the crater of the Batur Volcano but there are some more lava outlets on the large hills which surrounds the area.
In the morning the blue sky greets the traveler and in the afternoon the fog / clouds moves in, often some light rain splashes down. Here is what people call “culture landscape” means all primary forest has been cut but they are lucky, the ocean brings such an amount of water throughout the years and the volcanoes an amazing fertile ground so nothing can happen whatever they do.
